Five pillars

Find where attention matters most

A woman in a dark coat and lilac scarf walks between five colorful pillars toward a garden and distant hills.

You rate health, money and work, relationships, outlook on life, and beauty twice, for how each is going and how much it matters to you. The report starts with the part where what you want and what you have are furthest apart.

One quick question before Five pillars.

  1. How old are you?

We ask because the money questions are scored a little differently from age 62, and Five pillars is built for adults.

What decades of research reveal

The findings below come from published research on how life is going across relationships, health, purpose, and money. They are patterns across large groups, not predictions about any one person.

  • Stronger relationships, 50% greater likelihood of survival

Across 148 studies, people with stronger social relationships had a 50% greater likelihood of survival. This link is not proof that one caused the other.

  • At least 2 hours a week in nature, good health

In one large survey, at least 2 hours a week in nature was associated with more reports of good health and well-being, however the time was divided. That association is not proof of cause.

What parts of life does it cover?

Five pillars covers health, relationships, beauty in art and nature, money and work, and outlook on life. Each one is rated twice, for how it is going and how much it matters to you, and the two together are what make the report worth reading.

A kitchen counter holds two bowls with spoons, a fruit bowl, and a milk jug, with two stools standing at it.
  • Health

Your body and mind, and how they’ve been doing lately

  • Relationships

The people closest to you—family, friends, a partner, or chosen family

  • Beauty

Art, music, and nature—and how much of them reaches your life

  • Money and work

A reasonable standard of living, and work that satisfies you—paid or unpaid

  • Outlook on life

A way of seeing life, religious or not, that helps you through hard times

What is Five pillars for?

  1. 51 questions

A retake asks 41 questions within a year

  2. 5 pillars

    • Health
    • Relationships
    • Beauty
    • Money and work
    • Outlook on life
  3. 0–10 scale

Each pillar rates how it is going and how much it matters

  4. 5 questions on life overall

4 of them set beside UK adults’ answers, plus health, support, and money beside U.S. adults

A light curtain lifts beside an open window with tea and folded reading glasses on the sill, and a garden beyond.

The Five pillars assessment asks about five parts of life across several short screens. Each part is rated twice, for how it is going and for how much it matters, and the distance between those two answers is what the report is built around.

The questions are drawn from the UK Office for National Statistics, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the International Personality Item Pool, and our own questions, some of which have not been validated yet. It measures no ability and is not a diagnosis.

Why take it here?

  • Importance meets reality

You rate every part of life twice, once for how it is going and once for how much it matters. The gap separates what is merely imperfect from what is important and going badly.

  • Where change is realistic

The report puts difficult answers in perspective by identifying what is realistic to change across habits, traits, and interests, giving you a manageable place to start.

  • More than one reading

When you complete another check-in, the report includes what has changed since your last response, giving you a clear point of comparison.

  • Nothing at stake

No reason is required for a refund if you are unhappy with the full report. You can read it, decide afterward, and receive 100% of what you paid back within 30 days of buying it.

Common questions

Can this diagnose anything?

No. How you rate five parts of your life right now, and where that doesn’t line up with what matters most to you. It can’t diagnose anything or tell you what to want.

Where do the five parts come from?

Carl Jung named five things he thought make for a happy life in a 1960 newspaper interview. That is one thinker’s view, not a proven recipe—and we did not find a questionnaire that measures his five as a set. So we measure each part with questions from researchers or government surveys where we could find them, plus a few of our own. Questions of our own are marked as ours, so you can tell the difference between an established measure and an experiment we are still learning from.

Can I use this for hiring?

No. Nothing here was built or checked for choosing, promoting, or screening out people. The assessment also measures no ability, intelligence, or employability.
